Armadillos give birth to four babies at a time. They are always of the same sex; four identical quadruplets.
The eyes of owls are 10 times as light-sensitive as human eyes, and are so large there is little room for eye muscles, therefore they turn their head to follow an object, as much as 270 degrees.
The blood of horseshoe crabs is blue instead of red because it is copper, rather than iron-based. Their amazing immune system makes them extremely valuable to medical research in finding remedies for diseases. They can also see ultraviolet light and have the rare ability to regrow lost limbs. Not a crab, but rather a relative of the spider, these living fossils have not changed much in 350 million years. They live about 20 years. Their tail is used for maneuvering and righting themselves. They cannot hurt you so if you see one at the beach on its back, just flip it over, because sometimes it cannot right itself.
Did you know that birds that are strong fliers have dark meat? Examples are ducks and quail. And, birds that are poor fliers have white meat, such as chickens and turkeys. It's the oxygen-carrying blood supply to their muscles that makes the meat dark.
